Chronicle of the beach cleanup in Zarautz: coexistence and respect
Waking up up here and being left speechless by the views of the sea and the mountains is an experience that leaves a mark and isn’t easily forgotten; it connects you with nature instantly; 🌊🏔️ but we want to be totally honest with you: for us, managing this place is not just about renting a pitch, a glamping tent, or a bed in the hostel. ⛺✨
It goes much further: it’s about coexistence among campers of different nationalities, mutual respect, leisure, enjoyment, and taking care of the land that receives us; in short: all those values we seek in a campsite that welcomes so many nationalities. 🗺️❤️🌍🤝
That’s why, a few days ago, in a day organized by #GranCampingZarautz and the #Zarautzturismo office, we put on our gloves and went out to collect plastic on the beach. 🧤🗑️ We’re not looking for a medal, nor to leave the beach free of plastics forever, but we believe, with all our hearts, that we have the responsibility to leave this environment as we found it, or better.
To the ‘shock’ of many, we found a huge amount of microplastics; we achieved our goal: to stir consciences, of participants and of passersby who approached to ask about the next meeting, or curious people who asked about the initiative and were stunned to see everything we collected in a couple of hours… It served as a starting point. We believe that being aware that we have a problem with microplastics worldwide isn’t reinventing the wheel, but it is a first step, and making our surroundings participants and aware of it is one of the tasks we are going to carry out. We want to spread that desire to protect what surrounds us to you. 🌱
Therefore, when you come to Zarautz, we invite you to make the most of your days on the beach, walking along the region’s trails, getting to know the local culture, and soaking up our way of life, our language, and our customs, enjoying every sunset… but help us also to ensure our environment remains intact. 🌅
Traveling in a conscious and respectful way is the only path for this paradise to continue being that place we all wish to return to.
